| A flying car |
The vehicle is designed to drive on public roadways and park in a standard garage. Its maker is Terrafugia, which is based in Woburn, Massachusetts. Terrafugia - Latin for ‘escape from land’ - claims that the vehicle can transform from a car that can hit a highway speed of 65 m/h to a winged aircraft in 30 seconds. The plane version can cruise at about 115 m/h (185 km/h) and cover about 400 miles (644 km) before needing a refill of regular unleaded gas. The vehicle’s price is expected to be around $200,000 (€163,000) and deliveries could start in 2011, assuming the vehicle passes crash tests.
